Blogger reflection

I read an article discussing whether political correctness movement has gone too far in nowadays.
The article stated that political correctness today has hindered people from getting to know a different culture, ethnic group, religion and sexual orientation and put a gag on the whole American society.

I really agree with this article. The initial intent of political correctness was good. PC intended to eliminate discrimination against the minor groups and encouraged people to respect and care other's feelings. However, political correctness would impose negative impacts on the society once it has gone too far. In nowadays, it is very easy for some political correctness policy to use it as a tool to attach others regardless of dropping such hat is appropriate. It is highly possible that they take a comment or short sentence from another person's and define he or her as a racist, sexist or homophobe. If such situation does not stop, there would be no a free atmosphere where people can freely express themselves and be curious about different perspectives, ideas and, life experiences.
Rather, people would self-censor themselves before they speak all the time and might not be able to express their true ideas.

The 2016 American election was a good example. People who voted Donald Trump would not express their support publicly because they did not want to be seen as racist and sexist. As a result, many surveys of the election showed that Hillary Clinton was more likely to be elected as the President. However, in contrary to the survey result, Donald Trump was elected as the President.

Thus, political correctness has gone too far in these days. It hindered people's willingness to freely express themselves.
